What is a Comparison Shopping Service?
When you run Google Shopping campaigns, your product ads are served through a Comparison Shopping Service (CSS). By default, that’s Google Shopping itself. But since the EU’s antitrust ruling, Google has to let other CSS providers compete on equal terms.
Klarna is one of those alternative providers, and it’s a premium one. When your products are served through Klarna CSS instead of Google Shopping, you pay a lower cost-per-click for the same ad placement. Google effectively gives CSS partners a discount on the auction price.
The result: your Shopping and Performance Max campaigns cost less per click, your budget goes further, and your ROAS improves. Nothing else changes. Your ads look the same, appear in the same positions, and link to the same product pages.

We switch your Merchant Center
RTN moves your Google Merchant Center to Klarna’s CSS. This is a straightforward technical process that doesn’t affect your live campaigns.

With Klarna CSS active, you benefit from reduced auction costs on Google Shopping. The saving is typically up to 20% on cost-per-click.

Everything else stays the same
Same campaigns, same products, same bidding strategy, same landing pages. The only difference is you’re paying less for each click.

Will switching CSS affect my ad performance?
No. Your ads appear in the same positions, look the same to shoppers, and link to the same pages. The only change is the cost you pay per click.
Can I switch back to Google Shopping CSS?
Yes. Switching CSS is reversible. But once you see the cost savings, there’s no reason to go back.
Does this work with Performance Max?
Yes. Klarna CSS applies to all Shopping placements, including those served through Performance Max campaigns.
Do I need to be an RTN client to use this?
Klarna CSS is available as a standalone service. You don’t need to use RTN for Google Ads management to benefit from the CPC reduction.
